Who or what is Sound City? Sound City is a local music store in Grootegast that specializes in guitars. It is run by three ambitious (young) men, all coming from the music industry. The store has been open since November 2022. But what makes Sound City special? Their personal touch! These young men go above and beyond to help you. Not only do they sell guitars, but they also offer repairs, making sure your guitar or amplifier is in perfect condition. They gladly invite you for a cup of coffee and see you as a musical friend. They also regularly host various events in the shop.
The store faces challenges in reaching a younger audience, despite having social media. Their current audience is mostly older, and they struggle to convey their Unique Selling Point (personalized service) online. They also want to expand their brand awareness beyond Friesland and Groningen. To solve this, we created a design challenge to improve Sound City’s online and offline presence and better communicate their USP. We developed strategies and a platform to help them offer more personalized service and enhance their brand recognition.
After extensive research and ideation, we developed a multimedia ecosystem. This focuses primarily on improving interaction with, reaching, and persuading the target audience. Following thorough research (such as interviews, personas, desk research, SWOT analysis, How Might We, Best Good & Bad Practices, etc.), we established our design criteria. Our concept is: “To reach the target audience, we use a personal approach through a media ecosystem and physical artifacts that align with the researched design criteria.” We completed this semester with a range of online and offline artifacts that address our Design Challenge: Facebook & Instagram ads, Guerrilla marketing, TikTok & Instagram videos, website + webshop, 'Sound on the move,' a catchy slogan, 'Strumming Connections,' 'guitar picker,' and a fitting brand identity.
