client.

During my internship at ROSH Studios, I had the opportunity to design this Keti Koti festival poster & short animation for The Mansion & De Achtertuin located in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The Mansion in Nijmegen is a hip-hop platform that supports young people in their artistic development, focusing on community growth through creative expression. De Achtertuin in Nijmegen is a cultural hotspot on the NYMA grounds where people gather for music, events, and sustainable dining in a relaxed setting.

problem.

The client requested the poster to be suitable for both print and social media. To accommodate this, I designed the poster in various formats, such as 1920x1080 and 1350x1080 etc. Additionally, they wanted the social media posts to be animated, so I created a simple and inviting animated version that avoids being too hectic or chaotic.

This project was one of my favourites during my internship at ROSH Studios because I had a lot of creative freedom in the designing process.

solution.

Because I thoroughly researched the roots of Keti Koti and learned a lot about Surinamese culture, I was able to incorporate subtle references to Suriname in the poster. The rough design hints at African art, reflecting Suriname’s slavery past. The jaguar print background symbolizes the ruler of the Surinamese jungle, and the Monstera plants in the foreground evoke the same jungle. Stars divide the artists, representing the star in Suriname’s flag. ‘Kadena Kibra’ was added to include the Antillean community requested by the client. Finally, the broken chains with a white dove symbolize the abolition of slavery and freedom.
